New Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1: Power for the low range
Two new Snapdragon processors with the new Qualcomm name have arrived to offer more performance in the lower ranges.
Last year, Qualcomm changed the scheme according to the scheme it calls its processors, with what we went from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and, not long after, to the Qualcomm Sndragon 8+ Gen 1. This change was later. expanded to the mid-range, with the arrival of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
According to Qualcomm’s press release, two new chips for Android’s low ranges are arriving today. We refer to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. We expand the information below.
This is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1
This new processor is the successor to the Snapdragon 695 released last year. It brings several improvements such as a 35% increase in GPU performance and a 40% increase in processor performance.
Qualcomm has not shared all the details of its architecture, but we do know that the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is a 4 nanometer chip with an octa-core Kryo CPU. This CPU is clocked at 2.2 GHz. The companion Adreno GPU supports Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL ES 3.2 and OpenCL 2.0 FP API support.
the graphics chip offers support for HDR mode playback, hardware-accelerated H.256 and VP9 decoders, and support for HDR Playback Codec. Finally, the chip supports up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM with frequencies up to 2750 MHz. It also supports UFS 3.1 storage.
Like its predecessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is 5G compatible. In the image capture section, the SoC is also compatible with 3 13 MP cameras, a 25 + 16 MP dual camera system or a single 48 MP camera.
Features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1
The other new processor revealed today is the next one after the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus released last year. In this case, the performance increase in GPU and CPU is more subdued; only 10 and 15% respectively.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is a 6 nanometer chip compared to 4 of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. The CPU is a 64-bit Kryo (the cores of which are not specified) with a speed of 2 GHz. It is also not specified which Adreno GPU belongs to the CPU, but it is known to support Vulkan 1.1, OpenGL ES 3.2 and OpenCL 2.0 FP API support.
The chip supports LPDDR4X memory with speeds up to 2133 MHz (the maximum number of GB is not specified) and internal memory of types eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.2. Like its big brother, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 also gets 5G support.
As for photography, it supports three 13 MP cameras, a 25 + 13 MP dual camera system or a single 32 MP camera. It allows video recording at 1080p and 60 FPS quality, dual video recording at 1080p and 30 FPS and slow motion recording at 720p and 120 FPS.
